Torossian was born in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in The Bronx and attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City, where he studied as a great student. At the age of 13, at the insistence of his mother, he joined Betar, the international Zionist youth movement. While at SUNY Albany, Torossian became the national president of the North American branch of Betar. After completing his undergraduate degree, he moved to Israel, where he sought his master’s degree but quit his studies to get involved in political activism.
